Saint Etienne city

City of the first industrial revolution, Saint Etienne has lost its nickname of "black country" in favor of its image of "green city" with many assets such as nature walks, gorges of the Loire (ornithological reserve), and the superb Natural Park of Pilat (exceptional panoramas).

Marked by the "Greens" epic, the city has become famous for sports, and mainly football.

The city is pleasant to visit, full of history and memories, focused on culture (drama center, opera theater), shows (Zenith, FIL), and knowledge (numerous museums).

The Museum of Modern Art dressed in black mosaics represents the pictorial movements of contemporary art. The mining museum restores the work of miners during an emotional and exciting visit.

The City of Design will take you towards a near future. In the surroundings, many traces of the past are visible, and the region will not leave you indifferent.

LE CORBUSIER

Le Corbusier, an internationally renowned architect, built the largest architectural complex in Europe in Firminy.

Unique, this exceptional site consists of a cultural center, a stadium, a housing unit, and a church.

Free or guided tours, year-round events.

Open from November 1 to February 28 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. every day except Tuesdays.

Open from March 1 to October 31 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. every day. Closed on January 1, May 1, and December 25.

GEOFFROY GUICHARD STADE

The Geoffroy Guichard Stadium, nicknamed "Le Chaudron," is a stadium located in Saint-Etienne, built-in 1930.

It is the stadium where AS Saint-Etienne, one of France's most popular clubs, plays football matches..

MUSEE D’ART MODERNE

The Musée d'Art Moderne de Saint-Etienne Métropole presents contemporary art exhibitions renewed three times a year on nearly 4,000m2. In total, no less than 15 proposals are made each year, bringing together recognized international artists and young artists from here and elsewhere, in monographic, collective, or thematic presentations.

The Musée d'Art Moderne also has a collection of 19,000 works presented in frequently renewed thematic exhibitions.

OPERA THEATRE DE SAINT ETIENNE

With significant national and international notoriety, the Opera Theatre of Saint-Étienne is among the most dynamic opera houses in terms of the public. An establishment of the City of Saint-Étienne, it has been supported by the Conseil Général de la Loire, the Région Rhône-Alpes, and the Ministry of Culture. The Saint-Étienne Loire Lyric Choir and the Saint-Étienne Loire Symphony Orchestra, under the musical direction of Laurent Campellone, are the essential players in a program that also knows how to open up to artists from all horizons.

The primary vocation of the Opera Theatre of Saint-Étienne is lyrical: with its own set and costume construction workshops, the Opera Theatre produces and co-produces new lyrical productions every season. The institution also has a mission to offer a rich program to the widest possible audience with a demand for quality in the fields of classical music, dance, theater, and also towards as diverse forms as circus, cabaret...

LA COMEDIE DE SAINT ETIENNE

The Comédie de Saint-Étienne, a national dramatic center, is a theatrical institution driven by the energy of creation. Founded by Jean Dasté in 1947, the Comédie was a pioneer of French dramatic decentralization. It produces nationally and internationally renowned shows.

Since January 2011, it has been directed by Arnaud Meunier, who is developing a new project where creation and transmission are closely linked. The Comédie is a place of reflection, innovation, but also of celebration and surprise!

The programming aims to be open to teams known nationally and internationally, where famous directors and actors rub shoulders with emerging companies. The Comédie is also a theater for all audiences, with new proposals for younger audiences, families, and a pricing policy adapted to all (including the creation of a solidarity rate).

LE PUITS COURIOT MUSEE DE LA MINE

Located on one of the largest mining sites in the Loire basin, the Couriot Pit/Mine Park Museum, classified as a historic monument, offers you the opportunity to discover the history and know-how of the activity that gave rise to the development of the great industry of Saint-Étienne and its region.

PLANETARIUM 3D

The first 3D planetarium in France, the Saint-Étienne Planetarium is a place of scientific culture where one learns while having fun. Under its 12-meter diameter screen dome, you will attend a 3D or classic immersion screening followed by a guided discovery of the sky by an animator for an hour.

LE ZENITH

The Zénith de Saint Etienne Métropole can be configured in multiple configurations ranging from 970 to 7092 spectators, in all-seated or seated/standing, and can accommodate the biggest French and international musical productions, theatrical performances, as well as sports events.

The Zénith was also designed to host other institutional events: professional conventions, conferences...

Its "CARRE VIP" is a place for exchange, to invite collaborators, clients, to present wishes, products, a new direction, or to share a moment of conviviality among friends.

This exceptional space is associated with parking lots with a capacity of 1200 spaces.

CITE DU DESIGN

t offers various activities to discover design: temporary exhibitions (including the International Design Biennale of Saint-Étienne, a major design event in France, the next one will take place from March 14 to 31, 2013), guided tours, workshops for young audiences, symposiums, and conferences. It also offers art exhibitions in collaboration with the Saint-Etienne School of Art and Design.

The Cité du Design shop offers a selection of specialized design books and a wide range of playful and design objects spotted in the shops of Saint-Etienne.
